Despite what you read in the media about bees doing badly, beekeeping is thriving and the number of kept colonies has increased in the UK, although wild colony numbers have been severely depleted due to disease and habitat loss. The reason why the number of hived bees has grown is partly because more people have taken up the craft in recent years and also because we are able to manage disease better. For the moment at least. Worryingly there are threats around the corner from imported pests so we do need to be vigilant! A recent pest to England is the Asian Hornet. More will be added about this later.
The site contains general information about honeybees and also information for beekeepers:-
Bees and beekeeping in general
Honey production
Queen Rearing.
Swarm collection
The information specifically for beekeepers is in the Beekeepers' Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. This contains some advice on often asked specific topics of beekeeping practice and will be expanded as time allows.
